Hello my dear friends at Bikevo. I’m Dr. Borgia but you can call me Elisabeth.
In the coming months, I will introduce you to (and hopefully make you fall in love with) the world of psychology and more specifically, psychology as applied to sports. Before diving in to the various issues I thought it would be important to first briefly discuss Sports Psychology itself.
Sports Psychology studies professional and non-professional athletes in individual and team sports to bring to light their mental mechanisms and improve athletic performance and overall wellbeing by trying to allow their performance potential to coincide with their actual performance.
Sports psychologists work with athletes so that they become aware of how they function and how their bodies respond. They teach them a variety of tools and techniques that can be used to help achieve maximum performance.
I thought to take you on a "journey" that will allow you to experience firsthand, in a very practical and intuitive way, the great potential of our minds. The mind can be a huge resource but also a great limit when trying to achieve top performances. I therefore plan to explore the different psychological constructs not by using academic and, honestly, boring definitions. Rather, I will start with experiences or even better, facts or unforeseen events that can happen to amateurs, competitive athletes and professional athletes.
So, are you ready?
